SOLD!!!! Face!

I actually sold the painting last year at the end of my show, but the payment and delivery didn't happen until just this week! I'm excited for this painting to finally "go home". I hope I eventually paint others like this.

Previous photographs of this painting posted on this blog did not include the final finishing touches (i.e., the blue eye shadow on both eyes).

Finally Finding the Right Skin Tone...

I need to take a better picture of this, but I'm happy with it in person, for the most part. I've still got a lot of tweaking to do, but it's finally coming along!

The skin tone is kind of a mild lemon yellow. I mixed 40% naples yellow hue and 60% titanium white to get this color. It's a lot less obnoxious than the naples yellow hue by itself.

What This Looks Like Right Now

I think I want to make her left eyelid cobalt teal...

After Shot...

She looks a bit battered and bruised (i.e., I need to work a few more colors into the bag under her left eye), but wow... filling in the space with all quinacridone violet makes sense!!

Before Shot...

It's amazing what taking a photo can do to inform you about your next step...

Ooooh, Sexy!

I love, love, love the red in the background here. I'm not sure what to do about the face (I think I need a new dominant color...) but I feel like even if I can't finish this in time for my show, I could still hang it as a work-in-progress without too much shame.

Here's what it looks like right now...

Hoo, it's a tad scary! But hopefully quite artistic looking.

Self Portrait... Coming Along

I'm trying to not be afraid of the paint. I've done more with this since I took this photo, but I wanted to showcase the layering of the c.p. cadmium hue and quinacridone crimson on the lips.

Here's the previous iteration, for comparison's sake.

I Swear I've Been Painting... (Just not blogging...)

36 x 36 inches... acrylic in progress (with media!!). I've got a long way to go, but boy do I love how this started.

This painting is based on this lovely sketch that I did while staring into a compact mirror in low light.

Autoretrato

I drew this sketch of myself while looking through a makeup compact mirror in a basement dive bar in Manhattan (can you guess which bar I'm referring to?) this weekend. It's hideously fabulous. Don't worry, I don't look like this, nor do I think I do. Ah, arte... I hope to transform this into a painting, or let it inspire a painting.
